It repeats itself until the conflict is stopped.
So STOP it then! Right?
So much easier said than done.
Where did the conflict come from? It's often fabricated. So you're trying to stop something that's not real, that's made up to create a hostile environment, to keep you on the edge.
The Cycle can happen hundreds of times in an abusive relationship.
1. Abuse (physical/sexual/emotional/neglect/financial/drug/alcohol) occurs.
2. Then apologies, promises, blame the victim, deny or minimize it.
3. Then act like it never happened, it doesn’t happen for awhile, promises are kept, hope is restored, gifts are given.
4. Then anger rears its ugly head, abuse begins again, communication breaks down, victim helps abuser calm down, tension increases, walking on egg shells.
Here we go again ... 1. Abuse occurs.
