I posted a picture on facebook of Lonely Planet's Walking Guide for Trekking East Africa that I bought 18 years ago, around the time of my first trip to the Dominican Republic. Of all the books I've given away or sold over the past year or so, this is one of the prized few I kept. I have been drawn to Mt. Kilimanjaro for at least as long as I've had this book. Climbing it is on my "bucket list" which I just recently wrote down, thinking that transferring it from mental list to concrete list might really make it happen someday!
So stay with me. The book covers the countries of Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. Sunday I met a Ugandan family who has iniciated The Global Soap Project here in Atlanta to recycle bars of used hotel soap and ship to those in the world who do not have any. I was SO inspired by what they are doing! Then last night I visited with a new friend here who has been to Kenya a couple of times with Serv International, a local non-profit that works with the poorest of the poor in Mexico, Kenya and most recently the Dominican Republic. He mentioned that they have considered climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro which is on the Kenyan/Tanzanian border, at the end of one of their trips sometime. So I got chills when I remembered that I'd met some of the Serv International staff during the first week of August after having just moved down here. I'm just now realizing all that they do.
AND I've been praying about how I might eventually get to Africa, how God might use me in this area of His work and my interest! I think that's some Supernatural invading the Natural!
I still have goosebumps thinking about what's in the works. Who knows where this will go or when I will finally get to Mt. Kilimanjaro. I want to say I've been pretty patient. But actually, I don't recall EVER praying about this.
I take this as a confirmation that prayers works! I believe!
